Ep.16 - Direções e sítios na cidade (A1/A2)

Hello everyone, welcome to another episode of Beginner European Portuguese Podcast powered by Uca Teaches Portuguese. I’m your host Raquel Reis and today’s text is going to be about directions and places around the city. We’re going to be diving into vocabulary related to giving and receiving directions as well as places that you can find in any city. Today’s text will be using the Present Tense only and there will be some dialogue included.

O Uca e a Cuca adoram explorar a cidade onde vivem e aprender sobre novos lugares. A cidade tem muitos sítios interessantes: o mercado, o museu, a biblioteca, a estação de comboios, o parque, a farmácia e uma torre antiga no centro histórico. Quando alguém pede ajuda para encontrar um sítio, o Uca e a Cuca gostam de ensinar o caminho e o nome dos sítios em português.

Hoje de manhã, um turista pergunta como chegar ao mercado. A Cuca diz:
— Na Rua das Flores segue sempre em frente até ao semáforo. Depois vira à esquerda e anda mais dois quarteirões. O mercado fica do lado direito, em frente à padaria.

Mais tarde, uma família pergunta ao Uca como encontrar o parque. Ele explica:
— É fácil! Segue esta avenida até ao cruzamento. Depois vira à direita na Rua do Sol e continua até chegar ao fim da rua. O parque é grande e fica ao lado do museu.

Depois, o Uca e a Cuca encontram uma mulher à procura da torre antiga. A Cuca responde:
— A torre antiga está na Praça do Centro Histórico. Vai pela Rua Principal e, quando chegar à rotunda, segue em frente. Depois anda mais três quarteirões, e a torre está à direita.

No fim deste dia cheio de perguntas, o Uca e a Cuca voltam a casa felizes porque gostam muito de ajudar as pessoas.

Answers:

1) “Pharmacy” é farmácia em português. (“Pharmacy” is pharmacy in Portuguese)

2) O parque fica ao lado do museu. (The park is next to the museum)

3)  A torre antiga está na praça do centro histórico. (The old tower is in the square of the historic center)

4) Sim, eles gostam de ajudar as pessoas. (Yes, they like to help people)
