In this episode we’re going to read a text about Uca’s Christmas break and traditions It uses Present Tense and Past Tense (both Pretérito Perfeito and Pretérito Imperfeito). The text is in the 1st person, so it’s going to be Uca talking.

Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of the Beginner European Portuguese Podcast powered by Uca Teaches Portuguese, I’m your hostess Raquel Reis!
Today we’re taking a look at the 8th text of this series. In this season 1 of the A1/A2 Texts series we will have 12 texts. Today’s text is going to be about Christmas break, it’s still going to be catered a lot more towards A2 due to the fact that I want to make content with both past tenses: Pretérito Perfeito and Pretérito Imperfeito. I try to incorporate them both at the same time. It’s also going to be helpful for A1 students. If you’re an A1 student and you think this is going to be way too complex, don’t worry about it because it’s going to have some Present Tense as well as good vocabulary, so stick around for that!
A little twist that I have added onto this episode/text is that the text is going to be in the 1st person, so it’s going to be Uca talking. I just wanted it to be a little bit different, so we’re going to have some texts like this one where it’s going to be written in the 1st person.

As always the text is going to be read in two different speeds: the first one is slower and the second one is faster.
Adoro as férias de verão porque são as mais compridas, mas as férias de Natal são muito importantes para mim. São só 2 semanas, por isso não são muito longas, mas é quando toda a família se reúne. O Natal é uma das datas mais importantes para a nossa família, porque é quando conseguimos estar todos juntos.
Eu, a Cuca, o meu pai e a minha mãe vivemos muito longe de todos. Nós vivemos no Algarve e o resto dos nossos familiares vive em Lisboa. Estamos no Algarve porque os meus pais acham que é muito mais tranquilo do que nas cidades maiores. Nós preferimos o tempo quente, mas admito que no verão fica demasiado quente. Enfim, já estou a divagar… Agora é verão e tenho saudades da minha família então comecei a pensar no Natal do ano passado e queria partilhar com vocês.
No ano passado, as minhas férias de Natal começaram no dia 20 de dezembro, mas só fomos para Lisboa no dia 24 ao início da tarde. Fizemos uma viagem de 3 horas e meia de carro e pelo fim da tarde estávamos em Lisboa. Assim que cheguei à casa dos avós, senti um cheiro delicioso a comida caseira. A avó estava na cozinha a preparar pratos tradicionais de Natal, o polvo cozido e o arroz-doce. O avô estava na sala a contar histórias aos meus primos mais novos.
Durante esta altura, a casa deles está sempre cheia de vida. Os meus tios, avós e primos da parte da mãe e do pai juntam-se e passamos sempre muito tempo a falar e a brincar. Depois do jantar, ficámos à espera da meia noite na sala de estar à volta da lareira e contámos histórias, cantámos canções de Natal e bebemos chocolate quente.
Assim que bateu a meia noite no relógio, os adultos foram buscar as prendas de debaixo da árvore para o centro da sala e começámos a chamar os nomes de todos um por um para abrir as prendas. A noite acabou muito tarde, por volta das 2 da manhã, mas não faz mal, porque no dia seguinte só acordámos perto das 11 da manhã para nos prepararmos para o almoço de família no nosso restaurante favorito. Foi assim o meu Natal no ano passado, tenho muitas saudades de todos.

2) A família vive no Algarve porque é tranquilo e tem bom tempo. (The family lives in the Algarve because it’s calm and has good weather)
3) A família foi para Lisboa dia 24 ao início da tarde. (The family went to Lisbon on the 24th in the early afternoon)
4) Acordaram às 11 da manhã. (They woke up at 11 am)
