Olá a todos! Hi everyone and welcome to the Beginner European Portuguese podcast powered by Uca Teaches Portuguese. Throughout this podcast I will be your hostess. I’m Raquel Reis, nice to meet you! I’ve been a Portuguese teacher for almost 4 years now and I am delighted to explain to you how you can use this podcast to practice and improve your Portuguese if you’re a beginner.
If you’re a complete beginner, false beginner, or are in between A1 and A2 level this is the perfect place for you. If you’re a little bit more advanced than that then check out the Intermediate European Portuguese podcast which will definitely be more tailored for your skills.
This podcast and its content is designed to help you further develop the 4 key languages skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.
Let’s start with listening, since the texts are always read at two different speeds, the first one being slow and then fast. The slow speed is designed to help you focus on pronunciation, intonation and individual words. The fast speed simulates natural conversation, helping you improve comprehension in real-life scenarios.
How to use: Start with the slow version to get familiar with the content. Replay it as many times as needed before attempting the fast version to build confidence.
For reading, after listening, reading the transcript helps reinforce what you heard and improves your recognition of written words. Focus on how words are spelled compared to how they sound.
How to use: You can pause and reread difficult sections as often as needed, giving yourself time to process the language.
For writing, writing down answers to the questions that are at the end of the episode helps reinforce grammar and vocabulary from the text. Take your time forming sentences to ensure they are grammatically correct.
How to use: Review your answers after completing them and compare them to the transcript for any missed vocabulary or grammar issues.
For speaking, you can also just say the answers out loud, speaking instead of writing allows you to practice pronunciation and fluency. Focus on pronouncing each word clearly and using the same rhythm as in the audio.
How to use: Try repeating each answer multiple times, gradually increasing your speed and confidence.
